Whenever picking and dispatching of high-quality goods or consumer products are concerned, a high degree of
accuracy in the composition of deliveries and the quality assurance is the first priority. Wrong deliveries can
become extremely expensive and the processing of complaints is also a cost-intensive business.
Thus, it is far better to avoid mistakes right from the beginning by optimising the data recording in
quality assurance for an easier processing of returned goods. An additional advantage offered by the system
is the cost-efficient automation of the actual work processes due to the easy integration with existing infrastructural
environment like, for example, WLAN networks, load devices, material handling and conveyor technology.
Speech based picking solution
With topPICK-Quality topsystem now offers an optimised complete solution for this logistics business.
In addition to the control station, the modules of the system include article scanning, speech-based picking as well as
an optimised quality assurance.
The core of the electronic data circulation for the order processing is the control station from which the
expeditor/store manager receives up-to-date information for planning and control which he can then modify
accordingly if necessary. The control station receives its data from an upstream warehouse management system to
which topPICK-Quality can be connected with a variety of interfaces.
The order processing, i.e. the picking is performed with the speech-based system topSPEECH-Lydia®.
Provided with a headset, a robust standard PDA (VOXter®) and a backhand scanner (VOXter®-Scan), the pickers
are perfectly equipped for their work. The information about where to go and what to pick next is issued
with a naturally-spoken instruction via headset. The picking process is then confirmed with a simple barcode
scan of the picked article and a spoken reply.
The hands-free speech-controlled system allows the picker to fully concentrate on the goods picking which
ensures a constantly high picking quality while avoiding mistakes.
Increased quality assurance
Before the order is finished and closed, the quality assurance is performed in two steps. Each single package
is run through a weighing appliance before it is issued to the shipping area. Here a normative/actual
comparison is performed. If a discrepancy out of the configurable tolerance level occurs, the
complete order data is shown on the monitor of the quality assurance station. The Q/A staff can then
scan the barcodes of the actual package contents and compare them with the order list. Missing or
surplus articles can be added or removed correspondingly.
If the package contents comply with the order data – which is normally the case due to the
sophisticated error avoidance during the picking process – the goods in the package are
photographed in a next step. Both package data and the photo are stored in the system.
This documentation makes a possible complaint handling much easier because the recorded
data of the delivery can be accessed within a few seconds.
topPICK-Quality in tobacco picking
