Successful start for topSPEECH-Lydia® in Japan!
A correct delivery on time – whether it’s to the retail trade or to the end user – has highest priority for any
manufacturer. To rule out wrong deliveries and delays, more and more manufacturers are going for voice application
in picking. In the meantime pick-by-voice systems have gained ground even in countries with top-modern and automated
warehouses.
Just how great the customers’ interest is, could be clearly seen during the many discussions at the trade fair
Retailtech Tokyo at the end of March 2010.
topsystem is now starting with its first project in Japan. The voice suite topSPEECH-Lydia® is going into
operation at a manufacturer of crown moldings and wooden profiles. The customer’s choice of speech client
fell on the robust VOXter® Black Edition.
Improving quality and efficiency
In optimizing the processes the profile manufacturer was concentrating on paper-based picking. Having to deal with paper
lists and, in particular, looking for the right place in the warehouse, the warehouse employees were losing a lot of time.
Another factor was that the products to be picked were not so easy to distinguish at a glance.
By the time the correct article was found lot of time would sometimes pass.
However, now the pick-by-voice system by topSPEECH-Lydia® has brought some light into the darkness.
The pickers are now fully equipped for their work, with a headset and a handy mobile computer.
Via voice instructions the warehouse workers are led through the orders. They receive exact directions to the
warehouse location and details on the quantities. They confirm the individual operation stages via a brief voice input.
The procedure is therefore limited to only a few necessary hand movements and any mistakes are recognized
immediately and corrected. So distractions such as looking at paper lists are all a thing of the past.
Time spending looking for things in the warehouse are long gone.
