Lydia® reduces picking errors by 50 percent

12.07.2018 10:34:00

With the "Do it yourself" trend, knitting is back in fashion. Handmade hats, socks or sweaters are in high demand. The traditional company Max Gründl from Ingolstadt has the right yarn in stock for every piece of clothing. This is exactly where the Pick by Voice solution Lydia® from topsystem provides more transparency in order handling and more quality in delivery. The mobile Voxter® Elite voice computer replaced paper-based picking at Max Gründl. Already after a short time the success was obvious: With the introduction of Pick by Voice, lead times have been reduced by 25 percent.

Since the 1920s, the traditional company Max Gründl has been supplying the specialist retail and wool wholesale trade, wool mail order companies, department stores, special offer markets and well-known discounters from Germany and abroad with high-quality yarns and haberdashery products from Ingolstadt. Max Gründl has 2,800 different articles available in its 5,000 square metre logistics centre. Each day, employees process 120 orders and pick around 8,000 articles. A workload that could hardly be mastered with paper lists. A further challange was that many products are very similar. Incorrect handling during order picking was not uncommon in the past.

Since the introduction of Pick by Voice, picking has become much more efficient. Employees are guided to the right packaging unit with optimised routes and can concentrate fully on their work in compiling the deliveries. This reduces the risk of confusion to a minimum. "The error rate has fallen by around 50 percent. In addition, lead times have been reduced by around 25 percent, as the hands-free concept enables faster work," explains Benedikt Satzinger, Logistics Team Leader at Max Gründl. "In addition, the personnel can now be deployed in a more demand-oriented manner. Gone are the days when a clerk had to create the shipping documents and labels separately. "The picker now processes the entire order right up to the end and also prints the shipping documents and the corresponding shipping labels," continues Benedikt Satzinger. Lydia® Voice also simplifies incoming goods processes and replenishment control. The goods are received and stored using voice guidance and scanners, and the transfer of articles to the picking warehouse is also handled via the voice dialog.
